Meals & Snacks

Kids don't like change, that's why we don't update our menu too often. New meal options are added every couple months. At the same time, we say goodbye to the least popular positions in our menu.

We are very concerned about what our kids eat — in the same way we are extremely careful when preparing meals for your kids. We never use ingredients that we wouldn't give to our own kids. We mostly use organic ingredients, fresh and natural products from local suppliers, antibiotic- and hormone-free meat and poultry.

Our meals are school-safe. We don't use peanuts at our facility, and we always control the origin of all ingredients used for preparing our meals to make sure they contain no trace of peanuts or other tree nuts.

The exception is coconut, which is not a tree nut and can cause allergic reactions in very rare cases.

Despite all precautions, we don't recommend ordering our meals for kids who have known allergic reactions to peanuts and other tree nuts.

Our facility isn't certified as 'peanut-free'. Even though we never use peanuts in our kitchen, we can't fully guarantee that ingredients delivered to our kitchen and used to prepare our meals never came in contact with peanuts.

We do our best to thoroughly check the origin of every ingredient but we kindly ask you to be cautious and avoid ordering from Superhero Meals if your kid is allergic to peanuts.

We don't use common allergens (celery, soy, tree nuts, sesame) to prepare our Superhero Meals. However, these ingredients are used in our kitchen for other meals. That's why there is no 100% guarantee that your kids' meal won't have traces of these allergens.

We do use eggs, milk, mustard, fish and shellfish to prepare Superhero Meals — this information is clearly stated on our website and all packaging. We recommend checking the meal's description prior to adding it to your cart.

All snacks and vitamins are produced at peanut-free facilities and don't contain any common allergens. It's completely safe to give our snacks and vitamins even to kids with allergies.

We mainly cook for kids between the ages of 3 and 12. However, our meals are great for older kids and even grown-ups. Keep in mind that a young kid's usual portion doesn't exceed 350 calories of energy value so older kids and grown-ups might require a double portion.

Vitamins

With Superhero Meals, you can purchase organic and/or vegan/vegetarian vitamins for kids. They are produced by leading Canadian and American manufacturers — HerbaLand (Canada), Garden of Life (USA), Nova Scotia Organics (Canada), SmartyPants (USA), and others.

We only sell vitamins certified by Health Canada. All vitamins on our website are Licensed Natural Health Products and have a registered Natural Product Number (NPN) issued by Health Canada.

Moreover, we only offer vitamins scientifically proven effective and packed in dosages safe for kids. Please keep in mind that you should consult your kids' health practitioner before giving them any vitamins.

We truly believe that it's convenient for parents to order both meals and vitamins from the same place and at the same time.

Another reason to buy vitamins on our website is the fact that we have already picked the best organic and vegan options available and appropriate for kids. Our goal is to save you the time you would spend searching for these options in other stores, having to go through all non-organic and non-vegan brands.

Besides, our prices are among the lowest available on the market.

Vitamins are not our main product — we only sell them as supplements to healthy meals prepared for your kids. It allows us to keep our prices low and sell vitamins with a minimal markup.

Storage & Heating

Our vacuum-sealed meals can be heated either in the microwave, on the frying pan or in the oven. You will find heating instructions on each meal's packaging.

Before heating up your meal remove a paper sleeve and puncture a film with a fork. Heating time in the microwave is 1–1.5 minutes. If you decide to use the oven, preheat it to 350° and place the container on the middle rack for about 7–10 minutes. When using a frying pan, put the contents of the container on the pan and heat it up for approximately 5 minutes.

Heating time may vary depending on the meal type and the power of your appliance.

Always check the meal temperature before giving it to your kids to avoid burns!

Some meals do not require heating — you will see this information on the package. You can serve these meals straight from the refrigerator but we recommend removing them from the fridge about 30 minutes before serving to achieve room temperature.

lunches without heating. If a particular meal requires heating, you can heat it up at home according to the instructions provided and transfer into a thermal container (e.g. Thermos®). Depending on the food temperature, the thermal container can keep the meal warm for up to 5 hours.

Tip: Fill your thermal container with boiling water, leave it for 5 minutes and drain prior to putting in the heated meal. It will warm the container up and let the meal stay hot longer.

We don't recommend freezing our meals unless you're unable to consume them before the expiry date. In this case, feel free to freeze it. But keep in mind that some ingredients' texture and taste might be a bit different after you unfreeze your kids' meals.

'Ready-to-eat' means that these meals don't require heating – you can serve these meals right from the fridge (although we recommend removing such meals from the fridge 20–30 minutes prior to serving to achieve room temperature).

Ready-to-eat meals are perfect for snack time at home or at school as kids can eat them without asking their parents' to help with the heating. Place a sealed container in your kids' backpack to be used as a snack at school.

'Ready-to-heat' means that the meal is ready to be served after you heat it up. However, it's not mandatory – some kids might prefer to eat it cold. It's completely safe but the food might taste different.

Ready-to-heat meals can be heated in the microwave, in the oven or on a frying pan. You will find heating instructions on each meal's packaging. We strongly recommend helping kids of pre-school and elementary school age with heating their meals. Always check the meal temperature before serving to avoid burns.

These meals can be packed as school lunches after heating — just heat it up at home and place it into a thermal container. Depending on the food temperature, the thermal container can keep the meal warm for up to 5 hours.

Tip: Fill your thermal container with boiling water, leave it for 5 minutes and drain prior to putting in the heated meal. It will warm the container up and let the meal stay hot longer.

Packaging & recycling

We use the RotoPack packaging machine to seal your meals under vacuum in a protective atmosphere. It allows your meals to stay fresh up to 14 days in a regular household refrigerator. However when it comes to kids, we take maximum precaution and limit our products’ shelf life to 7 days. You can find BB dates printed on each container.

We deliver your meals in a thermal bag with a sufficient number of ice packs to ensure food freshness until you place it in your fridge.

Please be advised that we don't charge extra for a thermal bag — you can either recycle it or use it for grocery shopping or your next orders. Feel free to place it outside your door next time you get your delivery from us — our courier will pick it up and we will use it again after thorough cleaning and disinfection.

Thermal bags, ice packs, paper sleeves, and plastic containers are made from recyclable materials. Please rinse the food container prior to placing it in the recycling bin. To discard ice packs, first make sure they are fully melted — then cut the corner of the bag, pour out its contents into your sink, rinse the bag and place it into the recycling bin.

In order to spare recycling facilities excessive work, we recommend reusing ice packs and thermal bags for your household needs or your next orders — just leave it outside on the day of your next delivery.

COVID-19 update

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are currently experiencing shortages with recyclable container supply. That’s why some of your meals may be delivered in black plastic containers. Unfortunately black plastic is not considered recyclable in Ontario (while plastic of other colours is). To make it right, we will donate 5% of the amount you’ve paid for meals delivered in non-recyclable containers to the Greenbelt Foundation.

We hope this issue will be resolved soon.

Thank you for understanding!
